Name: Nodoka Miyazaki

Honestly, the manga (up to the American release) has said very little about Nodoka's past. She attends and lives at a Private Academy, Mahora, and is in the All Girl's Jr.High School district and dorms. Her dorm is shared by Yue Ayase and Haruna Saotome, both of whom are in the same school club as she is; The Library Exploration club (more on that later), along with Konoka Konoe.
In Mahora, students move up the grades with their classmates. Nodoka met her current best friend,Yue, around the start of middle school, and the four library exploration club members quickly became friends. As the girls grew older, Nodoka had little to no interest in the opposite sex.
In around 2002, when Nodoka was fourteen, their homeroom teacher for the previous year, Takamichi Takahata, was replaced by a 10 year prodigy; Negi Springfield. At the time, Nodoka did not realize that Negi was a mage, but he did save her from almost breaking her neck when she fell off a ledge in the first volume. Nodoka's heart was quickly won, and by the second volume, she was clearly head over heels for the ten year old.


It is important to note how painfully shy she is. At the beginning of the series, Nodoka has her bangs grown out very long to cover her face. However, as the series goes on, she changes her hairstyle to show her face. The reason for her increase in bravery is her interactions with Negi, whom she only grows to love more as he teaches her to be stronger.
On a school trip to Kyoto, Nodoka confesses to Negi that she loves him. Later that night, one of Nodoka's crazy classmates, Kazumi Asakura, organizes a "Kiss Negi" contest with Negi's magical ermine friend Chamo. The details are not important, but in the end, underdog Nodoka accidentally ends up winning. The end result is a "Pactio Card"; this card, in short, symbolizes that Nodoka is magician Negi's partner and shares some of his magic in the form of a magical artifact that can be summoned from the card.

At first,Nodoka does not know what to do with her card. Negi doesn't want to tell her because he doesn't want her involved and Chamo made the card behind his back. However, after overhearing a conversation between Negi and Asuna, who is also a partner with a pactio card, Nodoka realizes Negi is a wizard and learns how to use her card. Shortly after she ends up using her mind reading book from the card, "Diarium Ejus", to help Negi out of some trouble in Kyoto, and earns her right to be formally filled in on his magician secret.
After this, Nodoka spends more time with Negi while keeping his secret and helping out. She doesn't have much other major development other than her affections growing stronger until the Mahora Festival around 3-6 months later.
At the festival, Nodoka has another date with Negi. On this date, thanks to cruel book placements by Haruna to get her thinking dirty things, Nodoka ends up in a situation where Negi is willing to do anything she asks to make up for an earlier interruption. Nodoka bravely asks for an adult kiss, but unknowing to her,she is asking in a "danger zone" for the school's Giant Magic Tree; according to higher mages, if someone makes a wish in these danger zones, the wish comes true. After a run with a Wished!Kiss Terminator Negi (which ends with Asuna being kissed and Negi returning to normal, oblivious to what he did), they watch the fireworks together. Before leaving,Nodoka proclaims her love again, thanks Negi for teaching her to be brave and kisses him before running off.
Last major event of the festival is when she discovers her best friend,Yue, is also in love with Negi. After some drama, Nodoka and Yue promise to not let their love triangle end like in the depressing novels (namely, "Kokoro").
However, after the festival is over, Nodoka realizes that Negi and Yue get along very well and that Yue understands him better than her. She becomes jealous and secretly distressed over the love triangle. Since this is the point at which Book 18 ends, and that is the most recent American release, I will be pulling my Nodoka from this time.

Nodoka begins the series as being very shy, even among her classmates. She is blushy and can't look people in the face, and in the first anime, it is implied that she even has androphobia that she has been unable to conquer in an all girl's school.
Whoever, the Nodoka I will be playing has passed this stage; though yes, she is still quite shy. Nodoka is easily flustered and tends to be very quiet about what she's thinking, but does know when her opinion matters. Characters have often commented on how childish Nodoka is; she is naive and oblivious to some realities, having never experienced negative feelings like jealousy before.
She is a pacifist, and does not like fighting. Nodoka also loves her friends and wants them to be happy, as seen by the fact she wants to support Yue's romance with Negi. Her pacifist side can be seen in the fact her secret solution for the love triangle is polygamy, which she is embarrassed to realize.
This brings me to another point; one of Nodoka's weaknesses is herself. She often gets confused about what she wants because she doesn't want to be selfish and can be afraid of her true feelings.
Nodoka's pactio item strongly reflects her personality, not because of what it can do, but because of how she uses it. Her artifact lets her read minds, and it has been noted by characters that she probably got this book because she can't bring herself to abuse it; Nodoka respects peoples' boundaries and would never peek into their heart without asking, or if it's dire or not a personal thing (she often uses it to get directions). She has a kind heart and lots of love for those around her, which can often be both a strength and weakness.

As noted in her festival date, Nodoka is capable of dirty thoughts, namely French Kissing, but such thoughts make her panic and scold herself. She doesn't like thinking such things and is often ashamed to think them. This only supports her childish personality. As noted by Misora, she's like "a girl coming out elementary school" sometimes.

Some random quirks... Nodoka loves books. Her reason for befriending Yue was that"no one who likes books can be a bad person". She reads A LOT and has a lot of random knowledge (ex.: "The 5 second rule" in dodgeball) and is the is ranked 5th in her class, around 20th in the whole school, on most testing. Her being with the library exploration club as helped her detect booby traps and such and makes her good at scaling walls (though she still isn't horribly fit, seeing as she often the first to tire when Negi's party runs around).
In the official exclusive "who loves Negi most" poll,Nodoka ranked first. This is a big deal, since there are around 20 girls on this list.
When distressed, Nodoka often goes "Aboo aboo" or "awoo awoo" and flaps her arms.
